AT WAR WITH THE MODERN SHOE INDUSTRY

In 2017 I started wearing barefoot shoes out of necessity. After years of sports in tight cleats, heavy lifting in thick heeled air maxes, military service in cheap boots, and lots of sitting, my body started to break down.

My feet had become weak and atrophied, my gait was a mess, my knees started to bother me, and I had developed intense sciatic pain on the left side of my body.

I was a personal trainer at the time and I began to go down every health and fitness rabbit hole possible trying to fix the problems that were plaguing me, but I just couldn’t figure it out. Every time I’d relieve my pain it would only be temporary.

Eventually I got tired of shooting and missing. I didn’t need more hacks or more complexity, I needed to make things simpler, I needed to start at the very root of the issue. So i started working from the most logical place I could think of, from the ground up.

Our feet are our connection to the universe. Everything we do starts at the feet. To my surprise learning about toes, feet, and ankles, ended up teaching me a lot about knees, hips, and backs.

My barefoot journey didn’t stop at learning what a wide toe box is or how important it is to have a minimal sole. It opened up a whole new world to me. I learned about biomechanics, gait, primal movements, Animal Flow, GOATA, sitting postures, standing postures, the list goes on

Something as simple as changing my shoes and the way I view footwear ended up completely changing my life, the way I move, and shifting my entire worldview.

At first my barefoot journey was entirely personal. It was about me vs my own pain and my own Injuries. But as I learned about some of the problems the footwear industry causes I started noticing those same problems occurring not only in myself but in my friends, my family, and my clients.

I started noticing people (of all ages) having collapsed arches. I started noticing how many people, had weak atrophied feet. I started noticing how many women were developing bunions. I started noticing the “duck walk”. I started to see valgus and inside ankle bone low everywhere I looked. And I started noticing droves of idiot trainers on social media enforcing all of these bad habits and negative movement patterns.

Gradually I began to hate the modern shoe industry.

I got sick of seeing so many people walking around broken and dysfunctional just so they can keep up with the latest trend, or because they got sold a lie by some multi billion dollar corporation. The battle stopped being a battle between me and my injuries. It became a battle against the modern shoe industry.

On behalf of the people, Sole-Lo Shoes is officially at war with the modern shoe industry.

We will do whatever it takes to awaken as many people to the benefits of barefoot shoes as possible. We will find every shoe that serves a purpose and recreate them in a functional barefoot manner. We will give the people the alternatives they so badly need and deserve.
